EPA 608 Plan

What EPA 608 certification costs, and why we will not quote a price

Short answer

EPA does not set the price of Section 608 certification. Appendix D to subpart F permits each approved certifying programme to charge its own reasonable fee, so the cost depends entirely on which organisation you test with and whether you sit one type or Universal. Any single figure quoted as the EPA 608 exam fee is a particular vendor's price, not a regulated one.

There is no EPA fee

Appendix D, section a, says it in one line: "Certifying programs may charge individuals reasonable fees for the administration of the tests."

That is the whole of the federal rule on price. EPA approves organisations to certify technicians and publishes the list; it does not set, cap or publish their prices, and it collects nothing itself.

So we do not publish a number. A page that tells you "the EPA 608 exam costs $X" is quoting one vendor on one day, usually without saying which. Go to the EPA list of approved certifying programmes and price the ones near you.

What actually moves the price

What is not a cost

Nothing recurring. Section 608 certification does not expire, so there is no renewal fee, no continuing education requirement and no annual maintenance charge. If you are being sold an EPA 608 "renewal", check it against EPA's own statement that the credential does not expire.

Replacing a lost card is handled by the programme that certified you; EPA publishes a page on the steps for a lost card.
